My belief and post come from people who absolutely must have the newest iPhone when it comes out. I personally believe this is an unnecessary need of something that is in such high demand. This is a need that is generally met asap by most customers. This need comes from people always wanting to be better and have the best of everything. Some people are neglecting other areas that are more important just to satisfy this specific need.
I talked to one lady who had the iPhone X. I had asked her when she got the new phone, she explained that she had its preordered months before it came out and was in line the day it came out. She also told me she had done this for the past 2 years when a new iPhone came out and would likely continue to do this in the future. She expressed her joy for the iPhone and apple.
I learned that this lady was loyal to the brand regardless of what else was happening outside of the brand.
I spoke with a second lady who had been given an iPhone x for Christmas after having an android her entire life. She began telling me how some things were easier to do, but overall learning how to do certain things she had gotten used to on her old phone became difficult or challenging. She said she enjoyed the phone but if given the choice she would have likely kept her old phone and not had to relearn how to do everything.
This was an elder lady who hasn’t had many smart phones. I learned that even though she likes this new phone she quit frankly doesn’t care about the name brand phone or what’s more popular, she wanted what she was comfortable with.
The last gentlemen I spoke with explained to me how he didn’t have the new iPhone but was anxious to get it. He is currently waiting out his old phone contract to receive a free upgrade and was not willing to pay $400 just to upgrade when he has other things that are more important.
Even though this gentleman seemed excited about just the idea of a new phone, he realizes it isn’t the most important thing now and is more then willing to wait it out.
My opportunity believes didn’t change at all throughout this exercise. Although there are always going to be people who absolutely must have the newest item or accessory, there will also be people who either don’t care much for it or want it, but not want it enough. I don’t think entrepreneurship should really adapt or change anything off customer feedback unless it’s a recurring complaint or issue.
Hello Nick,
ReplyDeleteI totally understand that problem. I understand it being very popular with the younger population. I know if I had the ability to have the new IPhone every time I would definitely do it. But at this point in my life I love my IPhone 7 and am totally content with it, I never plan on upgrading anytime soon. But I know I have to soon because the theory with Apple and making their older products slower with the operation of their updates softwares is somewhat true. AT the moment my IPhone 7 I feel is getting slower and I think it is Apple forcing me to upgrade. If I had the chance of not upgrading I would do it, but right now it is only inevitable.
Interesting take on the opportunity belief Nick! It's rare these days to find someone who isn't on the "constantly updating technology" train. I'm right there with you. But sadly in the world of business, especially the tech business. It's an "evolve or die" mentality. Because the second Apple or Samsung or Nokia drop the ball there will always be another brand to pick up the slack for cheaper. But I agree that technology should not be about constantly rolling out new lines for the sake of staying on trend and actually creating reliable devices for their customers. Maybe one day someone will be able break that pattern in the business world!
