Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2
The five people I interviewed for this part of my research were high school and college students between the ages of 16-22. In these interviews 3 of the students stated they get at least 7 hours of sleep at night and still feel they have elevated stress levels. The other 2 students, both college level stated they do not feel stressed with both working part-time jobs while going to school.
1.)
Who: Are there certain
people or certain businesses that, although they share a lot in common with the
others in your opportunity, nevertheless fall outside the boundary? Why?
What I discovered was that many young adults have a perceived level of stress that can vary tremendously depending on the person. These people are getting sleep, so sleep deprivation is not a cause of their elevated stress levels. I also found 2 college students who sleep less than 6 hours at night and do not feel they suffer from elevated stress because they feel that they must get done what they have to and stressing out about it will not help.
2.)
At what point does the need you identified
differ from another need? (Is thirst the same as hunger? Or is the desire to
appear fashionable the same as the desire to be loved by others?)
3.)
Why: Is the underlying cause of the
outsiders' need different than people who are inside the boundary?
Inside
the boundary
|
Outside
the boundary
|
Who is in?
Young adults
|
Who is out?
Middle aged and
Older people; children
|
What the need is:
To develop time
management skills, to help reduce sleep deprivation, thus leading to reduced
stress levels.
|
What the need is not:
To focus on time
management due to the maturity levels of middle/older people and lack of
maturity levels in children.
|
Why the need exists:
Young adults are
taking on too much and do not know how to prioritize.
|
Alternative Explanations:
Regardless
of their time management skills, young adults do not have the maturity levels
to handle all the stress put upon them in such a short amount of time from going from the home of their parents to out on their own.

Nick,
ReplyDeleteYour layout is done well and I do agree that time management among children in high school and college should be better equipped to handle these measures and calm their stress. However, I don't clearly understand what you are trying to sell or what service you are offering? I know you the problem youd like to fix, but what service are you willing to offer.
Nick,
ReplyDeleteYou've introduced a very important issue that much of the younger generations can relate to. However, I am not exactly sure as to what you are offering in terms of a product of service. Your statistics regarding the relationship between sleep and stress seem accurate to me, in that I don't believe those who sleep less are more prone to stress, and vice versa. The stress factor is dependent on many individual circumstances. How do you plan on solving this issue?
